We visited Daisy Nook on a bright October day with some family. We chose it because its Oldham location was midway between the two families, and the continuing allure of sand play. The car park was chaos, very busy, as there was a large group of ramblers congregating as we arrived. It looked a popular place to visit and we ended parking at the garden centre down the road and walking back (luckily we needed a few bits from there to assuage any guilt) Straight from the car park is access to the cafe and toilets, and the barge themed 'tots lock'
Standard warning of 'take your own buckets and spades' applies but actually there were scoops chained to the equipment that did a pretty good job for those who forget. For a little while the general enjoyment of running in circles around the boat was just as fun as the sand, and the large numbers of horse riders going past along the canal provided great entertainment.
After the sand we walked along the (very muddy) canal to the adventure play area.
This was a bit more haphazard. There's a big slide set into the hill, a big wooden climbing frame, and not an awful lot else.
The climbing frame had the benefit of b
eing both very natural, but also encouraged open ended play. I often feel that a standard climbing frame has a very predetermined list of things that children are encouraged to do, but there were a hundred different ways for the kids to go under, over and through.
Parking - a couple of car parks that were very busy when we visited
Toilets - yes
Cafe - There was a takeaway hatch open when we visited but we didn't try it out.
